The Granite Historical Society was established in 1989 for the purpose of preserving, promoting, and researching the rich heritage of the Granite, Maryland area and communicating that knowledge to others in an effort to enhance historical appreciation. The Society worked to nominate the Granite Community as a National Historic District.
