Worthington Manor Tour Redux
On November 6, 2022 our GHS group walked around the Worthington Family Cemetery, saw the one outbuilding on the manor site which is still standing, examined a huge stone barn foundation and also examined a series of 12 fairly large flat stones which have sometimes been identified as slave grave markers. A report on Worthington Manor, commissioned by the GPCA and issued in 2001, identifies these stones as footings for outbuildings. GHS members had visited the manor site a year before, but for this visit the grounds crew of King Memorial Cemetery, which owns the property, had kindly cleared the area surrounding the remnants of the Worthington slave barracks so that we were able to examine these remnants closely.
