Alberton Road Trail Hike
The old Alberton Road, closed down after flooding from Tropical Storm Agnes wiped out the town of Daniels in 1972, remains mostly paved and serves as the state park trail. Along the route are plenty of foundations from houses that graced the Baltimore County side of the river before the flood. The stone remnants of St. Stanislaus Church, burned in 1926 after a lightning strike, are high up on a hill where the church once looked out over the old town. Some of our hikers ventured up the steep hill after hiking to the Daniels dam and back. Our group was given access by a state park ranger to the wonderful old stone house, built in 1851 by William Upton, and home to a GHS member, Terilynn Murray, until the state park acquired the house in early 2023.
